4th Live Cinema Festival
International Live Cinema Scenery with Cornelia Lund/fluctuatiing images and Herman Kolgen
The name “Live Cinema” originally referred to silent cinema screenings accompanied by live music. That, however, was in the 20th century. Now, the term “Live Cinema” refers to the simultaneous display of sounds and images by visual artists who offer up live presentations for the audience. In these presentations, improvisation and chance are part of a process that allows for creation and participation in a more expansive cinematographic experience for the audience. Now, more than ever, this is defined as a sensory, immersive experience.
The common thread in the works proposed here is a dislocation beyond the traditional parameters of cinematographic narrative, which ceases to be based on linear structure and the reproduction of reality through the camera in favor of what can be understood as the “cinematographic space”, where the term ‘CINEMA’ takes on a wider, more encompassing meaning, as it refers to every different form of production and exhibition of moving pictures with the goal of giving the audience an audiovisual experience. The artists – who present their works in the form of audiovisual compositions, remixes of heralded film classics and/or experimental works of conceptual or linguistic investigation – no longer conceive finished works. Rather, they offer up opportunities to articulate the work’s defining elements in combinations and recombinations that are never seen the same way twice, creating a unique and irreplaceable audiovisual work, experience or performance.
International Panorama with Cornelia Lund and Herman Kolgen
A chat with two of the main references in worlwide live cinema, which will bring the Rio de Janeiro audience the critical thinking of German researcher and audiovisual performance curator Cornelia Lund and the creative process of one of today's most important live cinema performers, Canadian artist Herman Kolgen. A great opportunity to get to know the artists, the techniques and the ideas behind live cinema. A great opportunity to become part of this network. Don't miss it!
