media flow. Videoventure on electronic Music Pt. 4

The exhibition series "media flow. videoventure on electronic music" is dedicated to visual music as a phenomenon of contemporary artistic production. The exhibition series aims to present current trends in the field of visual music. For the first part of the series in November 2004, film and video artists from different backgrounds (designer, artist, architect) were invited to show their specific angle on visualising music.
The second part was dedicated to audiovisual combinations. Since the new media allow coordination of pictures and sounds in real time, ever more artists and acts are working on both sound and image – and can do it even live. New mixing boards allow you to treat CDs and DVDs in the same way; cutting and editing processes that used to require extensive postproduction are now done on the spot. The emphasis of the exhibition is on cinematic sequences developing simultaneously with the music or before it – in reversal of the conventional situation, where already existing music is used for a visualization afterwards. 
The third part of the exhibition series arises from the contest "Dancing the Screen" and deals with the relations between video/film, electronic music and dance.
The fourth part now deals with a different angle: which visualizations do musicians and composers like? When are they satisfied? For the first time the "victims" of visualization are demanded to give their input to an exhibition screening.

Biography Michael Fakesch:

Michael Fakesch does some music for TV ads (e.g. Toyota) and soundtracks for short movies (e.g. for GettyImages) and is already working on his sophomore solo album. A new record deal with K7 Records is signed.
2005: In January, Chris De Luca moves to Berlin, Michael stays in their hometown Rosenheim. Funkstörung celebrate their 10th birthday with the release of 'The Return To The Acid Planet,' an album containing remixes and reworks of some of their 10 year old Acid tracks from Acid Planet and Bunker Records.
2004: In March, Funkstörung's second artist album, 'Disconnected,' is released on K7 Records. A worldwide tour, the first ever with a band, follows.Together with Mark McPherson, Michael coordinates and art directs the design book/DVD 'Isolated Triple Media,' which contains music videos and design ideas for the Funkstörung album 'Disconnected.' Nearly 1000 graphic designers and over 50 video directors are involved in the project, which is released on K7 Records and Die Gestalten Verlag. 'Isolated' is a great success, winning many print design awards (incl. best cover artwork 2004 in The Guardian) and video design awards (including the MUVI award of Oberhausen's Short Flm Festival and the Bauhaus' Backup Clip award).

Biography mateuniverse:

Communication Designer Jan Mathias Steinforth, born 1977 in Hannover, Germany, is professionally experienced in multimedia and graphics design. Under his VJ alias of mateuniverse, he has been touring Europe for more than two years now. Starting off underground, his passion took him to Madrid. He has screened his moving pictures at various art and electronica festivals in Europe and abroad, and even on TV.
His visual style has been described as "deconstructionist abstract", with three-dimensional objects creating impressing effects of space and depth. His understanding of the art is deeply rooted in the attempt to be able to immediately respond visually to any given auditive and emotional situation.

Die Fragestellung der vierten Ausstellung innerhalb der mehrjährigen Ausstellungsreihe lautet: Welche Musikvisualisierungen werden von Musikern und Komponisten als gelungen empfunden?

Die Ausstellungsreihe "media flow. videoventure on electronic music" gilt dem Phänomen der Visual Music, einer zeitgenössischen Praxis der Musikvisualisierung (zur Ausstellungsreihe bitte hier klicken).

Mit dem vierten Teil der Ausstellungsreihe erfolgt eine Änderung der Blickrichtung. Visual Music wurde kuratorisch und reflexiv bislang vor allem von Seiten der Kunst angegangen. Mit media flow. part IV soll die ästhetische Praxis der Visual Music erstmals aus dem Blickwinkel der Musiker betrachtet werden. Das heißt, Musiker wurden aufgefordert, Musikvisualisierungen zu benennen, die sie, von ihrem Standpunkt als Musiker aus, für besonders gelungen halten, seien es solche zu eigener oder solche zu fremder Musik. Während die Arbeiten von Musikern sonst oftmals eher „Opfer“ von Visualisierungen sind, soll Ihnen mit dieser Ausstellung ein Forum geboten werden, ihre Sichtweise und ihre Qualitätsmaßstäbe bei Musikvisualisierungen in den Vordergrund zu stellen. Um ein repräsentatives Spektrum zu gewinnen, wurden dazu Musiker ausgewählt, die in unter-schiedlichen musikalischen Bereichen wie Elektronik, Freestyle und Neue Musik zu verorteten sind.
